Who they are
Slide Safe is a start-up based in Lagos, Nigeria that distributes discreetly packaged self-testing kits for HIV, Hepatitis B and Syphilis, as well as condoms and lubricants, to promote sexual health in complete confidentiality.
We read about Slide Safe in an article featured in Quartz Africa and approached them through Lagos’s Co-Creation Hub.
We first connected with their Founder to find out more about how Slide Safe thought about data within their organisation. As a former nurse, she understood the issues they faced around sexual health and storing personal information. However she did not fully appreciate the tech implications and was keen to have external support and expertise to help secure the data they collect and use.
What we did
Adapt delivered the discovery phase for Slide Safe. Through online and in-person consultations, we learnt about their products and services – what data they collect and how they use, store and protect it. Based on our findings, we created a report outlining their national legal requirements and international best practice. The report concluded with a set of recommendations for policy and procedures, technology, communications and training in their organisation.
Following the report, we have supported Slide Safe with their policies and procedures and plan to provide additional support around the responsible sharing of their data with policy makers to drive social change in Nigeria.
We provided Slide Safe with resilience against the loss of data, thereby securing their business model which is based on their ability to securely hold their customers’ sensitive data.
Through our work with them, Slide Safe has been able to remove risk from their operations, ensuring that their product is in-line with international best practice, as well as increasing their understanding of how to use the data they are collecting to better deliver against their objectives.
